Skybury Lady Finger Bananas

Bananas are members of the Musaceae family. The banana plant is a monocotyledon, (considered a perennial herb) and is from a group that includes palms, grasses, and orchids.

We grow our bananas among the papaya and coffee crops, rotating with the coffee. It has high organic input and we pick the bunches between 16 and 20 weeks after flowering.

Bananas are a labour intensive crop. Each tree needs checking weekly for flowering and once the flower is opened, it is covered with a bag to protect it from damage.

We pick our bananas when they are fully mature and send them to the Brisbane markets for sale.

We usually eat our bananas in a fruit salad as they have a great natural and sweet flavour. Bananas custard is the children’s favorite and Marion has a great recipe for banana bread when they are over ripe. Remember - only store bananas in the fridge when they are ripe!

If you wish to purchase Skybury Lady Finger Bananas ask you grocer or supermarket to source our bananas from the central markets in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Ask for the Skybury brand!
